Object notes
Material, surface and intention.
Shaped from carefully selected wood and finished using the traditional Japanese Yakisugi technique, this writing instrument explores the quiet beauty of controlled imperfection.
Rather than pursuing a flawless polished surface, the material is intentionally allowed to retain a rugged, mineral character. Fine cracks, subtle ridges and naturally irregular textures evoke weathered volcanic rock, where centuries of erosion have softened strength into calm.
As light moves across the surface, the deep charcoal tones reveal unexpected highlights and a constantly changing landscape of texture. The result is less an object of decoration than a small sculptural form designed to be experienced both visually and through touch.
Protected with Renaissance Wax instead of a synthetic high-gloss finish, the wood preserves its natural tactile quality while remaining suitable for everyday use.
Individually handcrafted in Munich, this writing instrument is part of The First One Hundred — the founding LIGNORAE edition, where every piece is registered as a singular object with its own permanent archive.
