The First One Hundred

No. 20

LIGNORAE Fountain pen No. 20 is a hand-turned fountain pen made from Honduran rosewood with a striking two-tone character. Its deep reddish-brown cap contrasts with a lighter golden barrel, enriched by expressive dark streaks, irregular figuring and naturally dramatic grain patterns. The wood has been carefully shaped and polished to preserve its individual personality while giving the pen a smooth, comfortable feel in the hand. Satin-finished metal components add a restrained contemporary touch, while the warm gold-tone nib completes the pen’s elegant colour palette. No. 20 is an individually crafted writing instrument, created for someone who appreciates natural materials, subtle contrasts and the quiet character of a truly unique object.

Pen No. 20 brings together two contrasting expressions of Honduran rosewood in a single, harmonious writing instrument. The cap is turned from richly coloured reddish-brown wood, with a deep, warm tone and flowing grain. In contrast, the lighter golden barrel reveals a more dramatic structure, marked by irregular dark streaks, natural figuring and fine variations that give the surface a sense of movement.

Object notes

Material, surface and intention.

The two parts are carefully matched in proportion rather than made artificially uniform. Their contrast is complemented by the satin-finished metal hardware and the warm glow of the gold-tone fountain pen nib. Beneath the polished finish, the natural character of the wood remains visible, ensuring that no two pens can ever look exactly alike.

Hand-turned, fitted and finished individually in the LIGNORAE workshop, Pen No. 20 is both a functional writing instrument and a small study in colour, grain and material contrast. It is made for everyday writing, but carries the presence of a personal object created to last.
