Material, surface and intention.
Fire rarely destroys. More often, it reveals.
This piece started as ordinary Romanian beech, a humble wood with little intention of standing out. It was only after passing through fire that its true character emerged. The Yakisugi process darkened the grain, created depth, and left behind a surface that speaks quietly rather than loudly.
The final touch came by hand. Antique gold paste was carefully worked into the textured surface, not to cover the wood, but to illuminate the traces left by fire. Every golden highlight follows the grain instead of competing with it, making each pen impossible to reproduce exactly.
The sensation in hand is perhaps its greatest surprise. Despite its rugged appearance, the finish is remarkably smooth and refined, almost silky. It invites writing not through extravagance, but through balance.
Fitted with a gold-plated Bock No. 6 Fine nib, this is a writing instrument that celebrates contrast: fire and calm, darkness and light, tradition and craftsmanship.
