The First One Hundred

No. 45 - Countless eyes

A dialogue between geometry, texture, and time. Handcrafted from African Zebrano wood, this sculptural fountain pen combines elongated, tapered forms with deliberately textured surfaces and softly squared ends. Its distinctive grain, alternating between golden-brown tones and dark, irregular veins, becomes an integral part of the design. Minimalist in construction yet expressive in character, each piece celebrates the individuality of natural wood and the subtle imperfections of hand craftsmanship.

Object notes

Material, surface and intention.

The LIGNORAE Zebrano Sculptural explores the relationship between natural material, geometric restraint, and the human touch.

Handcrafted from African Zebrano (Microberlinia brazzavillensis), this fountain pen embraces the remarkable visual identity of a wood distinguished by its warm golden-brown background and dramatically contrasting dark grain.

Its silhouette is defined by elongated, gently tapered sections transitioning into softly squared, textured extremities. Subtle carved recesses interrupt the otherwise continuous geometry, introducing a deliberate contrast between refined surfaces and organic irregularity. The textured areas are individually shaped by hand, creating a tactile landscape reminiscent of weathered wood, ancient artifacts, and surfaces transformed by time.

Rather than imposing absolute symmetry, the design allows small variations to become part of its identity. Each surface carries traces of the creative process, while the natural grain follows its own unpredictable direction.

A sculpture that continues to evolve.

The textured wooden surfaces are conceived to interact with the hand. Through regular use, the wood may gradually develop a unique patina, while the subtle reliefs become increasingly familiar to their owner.

This transformation is intentional: the object is designed not merely to accompany its owner through time, but to acquire a personal history.

The contrast between the organic wooden body, the precision-machined metal components, and the gold-toned nib establishes a balance between contemporary functionality and sculptural expression.

Equipped with a German-made Bock No. 6 fountain pen nib and a Schmidt K5 converter, the instrument combines expressive craftsmanship with reliable writing performance.

Each LIGNORAE fountain pen is individually handcrafted in our Munich atelier and presented in its signature wooden Cocoon.

An individual object. A functional sculpture. A personal legacy.
